Alright, Indivisibles, Here’s the Scoop...

Community members gathered at Cunningham Park to celebrate the country's progress towards women's equality and to encourage activists to continue fighting for equal treatment.

  • Kids and adults alike created their own buttons and colored inspirational coloring sheets.

  • Storyteller Sue Godsey told a traditional Japanese folk tale called "Three Strong Women," which tells the story of a sumo wrestler who is humbled by three strong women, only to realize that he can learn much about strength from them.

  • Jamie Lindsey with Julie Joplin Media spoke about legislation that has endangered women's equality, the closing of the Joplin Planned Parenthood, and Julie Joplin's services available to the community (such as multiple forms of birth control).

  • Kayla Branstetter (author, researcher, professor, mother, and women's rights advocate) spoke about her upcoming book that will shine a light on the inequalities women face in health care. She also spoke encouragement and empowerment to the women in attendance.

"Medusa’s gaze turned men to stone. Ours will turn systems to dust."

Getting together in a park for a celebration like this was new to us, but we had a great experience.

I had Professor Branstetter as an English professor at Crowder College. She is a force to be reckoned with, and we were so fortunate to have her as a speaker. Watch for her book to be released soon; it gives a voice to women all over the country.

Sue's storytelling was such a fun activity. I enjoyed it as much as my children did.

Julie Joplin Media has helpful resources available to the community that I was unaware of, so please check them out!
